Northwood XI Pre-Season Friendlies
Thursday 8th August
Harefield United 4 Northwood XI 1
Report
by Alan Evans
A Northwood XI crashed to a 4-1 defeat at
Spartan South Midlands League neighbours Harefield United, having been
3-0 down in 25 minutes.
With a makeshift starting defence of Gavin Hart, Jason O'Connor (both
playing their first games of the season) alongside Mark Dennison and Ricky
Alexander, Northwood were all over the place early on and the Hares took
full advantage. Rob Bullivant didn't have one of his best games, either.
The last fifteen minutes of the first-half saw plenty of chances, with
Danny Julienne denied twice, while Shane O'Neill blasted over from a good
position.
The second period started well when Elliott Buchanan was set up by Peter
Dean to make it 3-1, but the game petered out and Harefield added a fourth
after Rob Bullivant let one slip from his grasp.
The Hares look like having another good season on the basis of this
performance.
Team: Rob Bullivant, Gavin Hart, Ricky Alexander (Liam O'Keefe - 84m),
Mark Dennison, Jason O'Connor, Dean Powles, Shane O'Neill (Daniel Hawes -
27m), Danny Julienne, Dean Clark, Peter Dean (Adam Gill - 80m), James
Hamsher (Elliott Buchanan - 27m).

Penn & Tylers Green 2 Northwood XI 0
The reserves played a mid-day friendly
fixture at Penn & Tylers Green, but went down 2-0 to the Hellenic League
side.
Jason O'Connor had his first full run out after recovering from injury.
Tuesday 18th July
Chertsey Town 0 Northwood XI 0
Report by Alan Evans
A side made up a mixture of
first-team regulars, youth, reserves and triallists, played out a 0-0
draw at Combined Counties League side Chertsey Town.
With Wayne Carter and Dean
Powles controlling the centre of the park, the chances were with the
Woods in the first-half as Chertsey goalkeeper Darren Cooper made three
excellent stops when one-on-one. The lively Kyle Matthews was denied
twice and also Dean Powles.
17-year-old Adam Gill looked
comfortable throughout in the centre of the defence and there were also
solid performances by reserve team player of the year Aaron Coldman and
triallist Jack Leesey.
Liam Watson returned in goal
for his first start since injury last season while Michael Lavender
played the second-half, the latter having most to do but also doing it
well.
Team: Liam Watson (Michael Lavender (HT)), Aaron Coldman
(Liam O'Keefe 73m), Jack Leesey (Luke Lynam 62m), Adam Gill, Tawhid
Juneja, Dean Powles (Dave Nolan 49m), Darren Pomroy (Akram Sulaiman
79m), Wayne Carter, Kyle Matthews (Carl Hunt 73m), Lee Currie (Bobby
Dance HT), James Hamsher (Elliott Buchanan HT).
